Just ordered a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint from new egg today for $92 – free shipping. My 250 gig Samsung is about half full as it’s configured with Windows 7 and has been running better than it did when it was new, but the price of huge hard drives is way down, so I got while the getting is good. It can only make the computer run better, and give me even more storage capacity. More stuff to back up too – oh well. You gotta back it up right? I’m running three different types of backup as it stands today. Actually 4 if you count gmail. Your email being backed up is just as important as anything right? I have 2 gigs of online backup with mozy.com, 1 160 gig network hard drive, and 1 500 gig external usb hard drive. That ought to hold me . . . for while anyway.

Took this picture of Mom and Dad this morning for their 60th wedding anniversary. The new camera takes excellent pictures, but the gimp helped. Happy Anniversary!

Windows 7

Just backed up all my data, formatted the hard drive and installed Windows 7 on my Desktop. Who-weee! It looks and runs better than it ever did. It’s about a year old and came with Vista. Vista and I had issues from the very start. It took several weeks before I figured out the different work-arounds to do the things I needed to do. It never did run well. It was slow with too many quirps to mention, But that’s all over now. Windows 7 saved the day. I was so mad at Windows I was actually cons, idering an iMac. Don’t get me wrong – iMacs are nice computers, but they’re not twice as nice. My Dell cost $600 and an equal iMac would cost $1200. I find that hard to justify. I’m typing this post on a $300 netbook with ubuntu for an operating system. It’s not a macbook, but close to it – at one third the price. Both the netbook and Macbook will be old in a few years. During that time who knows how much I’d spend on proprietary software for the mac. Ubuntu is and always will be free. I like that.
